Simon Delestre won class 5 at the Longines Global Champions Tour of Rome, a CSI 5* 1.50 m class presented by Ares Atelier. Riding Crazy Daisy 13, the French rider posted the only clear round under 56 seconds: 55.84, with a time allowed of 69 seconds.
The class was run in a new format: a single round, Table A against the clock. Out of 49 starters, 15 combinations finished without penalties, so the clock made the difference.
A tight podium
Simon Delestre, ranked 25th in the Longines world ranking, finished 0.45 seconds ahead of Sanne Thijssen of the Netherlands, second with Farah Z in 56.29. Germany’s Hans-Dieter Dreher completed the podium with Harley de la Cense in 56.48, 0.64 seconds behind the winner.
Behind them, Italy’s Giacomo Casadei (Rodania ter Leydonck) and Spain’s Sergio Alvarez Moya (Quadrado) shared fourth place to the hundredth: 57.07 each. Casadei was the best Italian rider in the class, in front of his home crowd.
