Marcus Ehning claims the H.M. The Queen’s Cup at CSIO Barcelona for a second time
Germany’s Marcus Ehning (Stargold) wins the H.M. The Queen’s Cup ten years after his first victory with Funky Fred. Nicolas Sers (Komet des K Z) is second and Álvaro González de Zárate (Casa Diva PS) third.

Ten years on, Marcus Ehning has won the H.M. The Queen’s Cup – KAR Sport Horses Trophy – Generalitat de Catalunya Award once again. The class was moved forward by more than two hours to avoid the heavy rain forecast for Saturday evening. In 2016, the German rider triumphed in the Real Club de Polo’s Olympic arena with Funky Fred; this time he repeated the feat with Stargold.
Ehning finished his round in 70.55 seconds, more than a second faster than France’s Nicolas Sers (Komet des K Z). Spain is once again represented on the podium thanks to Álvaro González de Zárate, third with Casa Diva PS, the best Spanish result in the class. Nicolas Sers, one of the standout riders of this edition, had already claimed two victories.
Brazilian victory in the CaixaBank Trophy
Giulia Dal Canton won the CaixaBank Trophy, the second class of the day at CSIO Barcelona. Riding Jolie Girl du Breil, the Brazilian was the fastest of the four combinations to complete both rounds without penalties. Her time of 44.34 seconds put her 70 hundredths of a second ahead of the best Spanish rider, Maria Gil Díaz (Explosion vh Legita Hof Z). RC Polo rider Diana Piera completes the podium with Irish de Riverland.
Denmark’s Sophie Schwarck takes the Vilmon Cup
The day began with a win for Sophie Schwarck in the Vilmon Cup. In 62.22 seconds, the Danish rider, aboard Attention Please Z, beat Ibiza-born Chantal Fernández Saez, the best Spanish rider with Bubalu, by more than a second. Third place goes to another Ibiza rider, Juana Maria Roig Tur, with Jill Dona.
And tomorrow?
CSIO Barcelona will close on Sunday with the event’s most important competition: the Longines League of Nations™ Final. The world’s top eight national teams will take part, alongside host nation Spain. Following instructions from Civil Protection, the start of the competition has been moved from 12 noon to 2.30 pm to avoid the episode of heavy rain forecast until 2 pm.
